Session One: Losing Jesus in the Feasts

Lesson Summary

Jesus participated in the Biblical Feasts, and in doing so, gives us a window into the Kingdom. Here are some key points:

  • Jesus was raised in Egypt and Nazareth, and His family celebrated the feasts by walking about 70 miles to Jerusalem.
  • During one Passover, Jesus was inadvertently left in Jerusalem, indicating the family's commitment to the feasts.
  • God rewarded His people for their dedication to His appointed feasts.

In Jewish culture, the calendar followed a lunar cycle, with weeks, months, and years regulated by the moon. The Feasts serve as a significant element in understanding God's plan:

  • Feasts were a window to God's purpose and plan for mankind, with major events correlating with feast days.
  • The Feasts of the LORD were prophetic, announcing future events and serving as rehearsals for God's appointed times.
  • The seven Feasts outlined in Leviticus 23 are: Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Weeks (Pentecost), Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles.

Christianity is deeply connected to Judaism, and by understanding and participating in the Feasts, Christians can experience a fuller understanding of God's redemptive acts:

  • The Feasts commemorated God's past works, anticipated future deliverance, and guided obedience in the present.
  • While God's grace is not limited to specific days, the Feasts offer believers a chance to experience God's presence, peace, and grace.
  • By embracing God's appointed times, Christians align with the redemptive acts of God, preparing for the future and living obediently in the present.
